Reasons Women Must Take Up Fitness Programs

Many women associate fitness with slimness. Women often start taking exercise primarily because they want to lose weight. They then often become frustrated because they do not seem to lose weight and give up their exercise program.

The basic problem here is that fitness and slimness are not strictly the same thing. Think of a football player or a wrestler. They are obviously fit but the may be much heavier than the ideal weight for their height.

Ideal height to weight ratios can be misleading. What we are really concerned about is fat. Excess fat is the danger to health.

Fat is formed by eating too many calories and exercise does not burn many calories. Shifting the fat depends on reducing your calorific intake. It is not unusual to lose as little as four ounces of weight a week from exercise alone. Over a year that amounts to quite a lot, but on a weekly basis is it hardly registers on most sets of scales.

Some women may even put on weight when they begin to exercise because they are creating muscle. This kind of weight gain is not harmful to a woman's health because it is not fat.

So if a woman's aim is to reduce her weight then she must focus on diet as well as exercise. In the long run the exercise will benefit her weight loss program because she is creating more lean muscle. Lean muscle burns more calories than fat even when sitting still so she will find it easier to maintain a healthy weight. There is less danger yo-yo weight loss and regain that afflicts so many women.

Weight training is of great benefit to women for this reason. Weight training creates lean muscle more quickly than cardiovascular fitness training. It is therefore a good idea for women to include some resistance work in their fitness regime. Even free weights can be beneficial. Don't be put off by the men. No woman will develop bulging muscles with weight training because women don't have as much testosterone as men.

Cardiovascular fitness training is vital for women as it is for men because it combats so many common health problems. Heart disease affects women as well as men. They can also suffer from high blood pressure. So it is important for women to do a frequent cardiovascular work out that will strengthen the heart and improve the circulation.

A good circulation is important for making a woman look fit. Cardiovascular fitness training will give a woman that healthy glow. Her skin, hair and eyes will all look healthy. A woman who radiates good health will get noticed. She will look good. Her vitality will shine through and say much more about a woman than a slightly overweight figure.

Cardiovascular exercise and resistance work are especially important for women because of the danger of osteoporosis. Osteoporosis is a common problem for women as they age and the density of their bones diminishes. It can result in breakages in older women. The best way to prevent osteoporosis is by fitness training.

Fitness training can also combat other common health problems in women. Painful periods can be helped by exercise. Depression and anxiety can both be reduced. Exercise increases the level of serotonin and releases dopamine which improve mood and reduce pain. Fitness training has been shown to have a definite effect on levels of serotonin and dopamine in women.

After exercise a woman will feel more positive about her confident. The stresses and strains of everyday life will seem more manageable.

Can A Woman Achieve Her Fitness Goals In A Health Club?

If you're reading this article, then we're going to assume that you already know you need anaerobic exercise (resistance training) to be truly fit for life. You're not the average woman. You're concerned about fitness and you're probably a member of a health club. More than likely, you hit the gym pretty hard at least three times each week, using all of the fitness equipment and working on your curves.

But are you achieving your weight loss goals? Are you the sexy woman you want to be? You know that maintaining your health and fitness is the surest path to being a beautiful woman, but are you happy with the progress you've made so far?

Maybe the problem is that you've been doing the wrong exercises the wrong way. As they say, knowledge is power, and if you're going to achieve true lifetime fitness it's important to understand exactly what type of resistance (weight) training is best for a woman, how many repetitions (reps) you should do, how many sets you should complete and how often you should exercise.

The purpose of this article is to help you understand that HOW you exercise is critical to your overall physical fitness. In other words, just being on a fitness program will not turn you into Wonder Woman. But being on the RIGHT fitness program will.

Some Women's Fitness Definitions:

Resistance (weight) training is extremely important for women. Without it, you'll never be the fitness girl you want to be. Before we continue with this discussion, it's important for us to pause and define some resistance exercise terms:
1. Resistance Training: Exercise that utilizes progressive resistance movements to build strength.
2. Repetition: An individually completed exercise movement. Repetitions are usually done in multiples. Commonly referred to as a rep.
3. Set: A group of repetitions of an exercise movement done consecutively, without rest, until a given number (or momentary exhaustion) is reached.
4. 1RM: One Repetition Maximum. The maximum resistance with which a person can execute one repetition of an exercise movement.

Example: If you are doing dumbbell arm curls to work your biceps, you start with the dumbbells in each hand and your arms fully extended downward. Keeping your elbows locked at your side, you lift each dumbbell upward by contracting your biceps. When your biceps have lifted the dumbbells as high as they can, your hands will be up close to your chin. This is called the 'top' of the movement. To complete the repetition, lower the dumbbells slowly to the starting position. That's one repetition of dumbbell curls. Resistance training is commonly done in sets of repetitions. In this example, perhaps you'd do three sets of ten repetitions so you would fully complete thirty dumbbell arm curls.

We know that women need to resistance train, and we also have some working knowledge of exactly what resistance training means. With that information fresh in our minds, let's take a look at the reason why most women don't train this way.

I Don't Want To Look Like Arnold!

Many women fear that resistance training (or weight lifting) will make them 'get big' or appear bulky. Well, fear not! Engaging in resistance exercise will not make you big or bulky, ladies. Let's take a look at why.

First and foremost, most women do not have enough testosterone in their system to get huge muscles. That's the bottom line, and that's the top reason why you will not ever get huge muscles no matter how much you resistance train. Just about the only way for a woman to get large muscles like a man is to alter her hormonal balance through the use of anabolic steroids that mimic the action of testosterone. If you're not doing anabolic steroids, you have nothing to worry about.

Secondly, even if you wanted to get huge Arnold-like muscles it would be next to impossible. Right now, this very moment, I can guarantee you that there are millions of men trying to get huge muscles. Very few of them are successful, and men have all the testosterone.

The third reason why resistance training (weight lifting) will not give women big, huge muscles is that women rarely perform lifts that will give them large muscles. There are several different ways to weight train, and most people have no idea how to train to achieve their goals.

If your goal is to have lean, toned muscle without a lot of size, then you should be doing high repetitions with a relatively low amount of weight (resistance). You can lift this way all day long and you will not develop huge muscles. This approach to resistance training will accomplish two things: burn fat and tone muscle. That's it.

If your goal is to increase muscle size, then you should be lifting relatively heavy weights (resistance) about 6-8 times per set. The weight selected should be about 80% of your 1RM. For example, if the most you could ever bench press once is 100 lbs. (your 1RM), then to gain size you would want to be bench pressing about 80 lbs. 6-8 times per set. Compare this to the training of someone who wants to burn fat and tone muscle. The person who wants to gain muscle size keeps the weight much higher and does fewer repetitions.

Finally, perhaps your goal is to gain extreme strength. An example of this would be a powerlifter. Resistance training to gain strength would require you to lift as much weight as possible, but only one time (one repetition). Obviously, this method will not burn as much fat. It will also not create HUGE muscles, but it will result in some muscle growth above and beyond what most women find appealing.

To summarize, there are three different ways to resistance train and the vast majority of women do not train in such a way that they will end up building huge Arnold-like muscles. Even if you wanted to build large muscles, it is extremely unlikely that you would be able to do so (unless you're taking anabolic steroids!) because women simply don't have the same body chemistry as men.

Okay, so let's summarize the reasons why resistance training will not make women big or bulky:
1. Most women do not have enough testosterone in their system to get huge muscles.
2. Even if you wanted to get huge Arnold-like muscles it would be next to impossible because building huge muscles is not easy.
3. Women rarely perform lifts that will give them large muscles.

The bottom line is that for women to get big and bulky, they would need to very consciously TRY to get big and bulky. It would require a certain type of lifting, a tremendous amount of effort, a certain type of equipment and probably regular doses of steroids. So you see, there really is no danger that any of us will turn into Arnold or Rocky Balboa.

A Positive And Negative Fitness Workout:

There are two movements in any resistance training (weight lifting) exercise. These are called the concentric and the eccentric parts of the exercise, also commonly referred to as the 'positive' and 'negative'.

The concentric (positive) part of the resistance training movement is defined as "Muscle action in which the muscle is shortening under its own power" (Source: Fitness, The Complete Guide; ISSA 2001). Examples would be pushing the bar away from you on a bench press, or lifting the bar towards your chin on a biceps curl.

The eccentric (negative) part of the resistance training movement is defined as "Muscle action in which the muscle resists while it is forced to lengthen" (Source: Fitness, The Complete Guide; ISSA 2001). Examples would be lowering the bar on a bench press, or lowering the bar away from your chin on a biceps curl.

The point to be made here is that the eccentric part of the resistance training movement is the component that will lead to extensive muscle growth. The eccentric (negative) is what actually causes the vast majority of the muscle growth in resistance training. The concentric (positive) tones the muscle.

Female Fitness Tips:

Armed with that background knowledge on the three different ways to resistance train and the two different movements in any resistance training activity, we're ready to examine how a woman should approach her gym workout. You deserve the best weight loss program possible, and the goal is to help you get the most out of your gym membership.

For women to experience fast weight loss, they must engage in resistance training designed to accomplish that goal. You should be lifting relatively light weight and doing high repetitions. By high, we don't mean 10-12 either. We're talking about 60-75 repetitions total, completed in three sets of 20-25 reps per set. Higher repetitions with lower resistance will burn fat and tone muscle, but will not lead to extreme muscle growth.

Women should train often enough to achieve their weight loss goals, which generally means at least three times per week. However, many women want to get into the health club more often than that in order to accelerate their results. The only reason to resistance train less often than every day is concern about muscle damage that can occur with use of free weights or weight stacks. As we already discovered in our discussion of eccentric (negative) and concentric (positive) resistance training movements, it is possible to damage muscle tissue when using free weights or weight stacks.

So when it comes to training frequency, women who are using free weights or weight stacks should keep their resistance training to every other day at most. This will allow the muscle time to recover between workouts and minimize the risk of injury.

To summarize, women on a fitness quest should remember these health club tips:
1. Use relatively low weight, maybe 50% of your 1RM.
2. Do high repetitions. 20-25 reps per set should be about right.
3. Perform at least three sets of each resistance training exercise.
4. If you're using free weights or weight stacks, train every other day at the most.

Following these suggestions will help you lose weight and tone up without any risk of turning into a muscle woman so huge your kids won't recognize you.

Develop The Correct Golf Swing For Women With Golf Fitness Training

The woman golfer has a myriad of questions on how to develop the correct golf swing as does most any amateur. The questions from woman golfers center on a myriad of topics such as; how to hit the golf ball farther, how to develop a more repeatable golf swing, how do I hit half shots with my wedges, what are good putting drills? The list can go on and on in relation to the woman golfer and how to improve their golf swing. An area that is now presenting more and more questions from the woman golfer centers upon golf fitness. Questions such as; what are good golf flexibility exercises, and how can golf fitness exercises help me drive the golf farther? These and many more questions are arising in relation to golf fitness and the woman golfer.

It is well known on the LPGA tour the number of players utilizing golf fitness programs to improve their golf game. Annika Sorrenstam has publicly stated the benefits she has received in her golf game from golf fitness training. One area that always appears to be a concern for the woman golfer is distance. How to hit the golf ball farther and Sorrenstam does hit the ball a long way, and utilizes golf fitness training. A simple connection can be drawn between increased driving distance, women golfers, and golf fitness exercises. The bottom line is this; golf fitness exercises can benefit the distance of drives for the woman golfer.

The questions that need to be answered are how and why. First off an understanding of increased distance, the golf swing, and the woman golfer needs to be addressed. Driving distance is contingent upon clubhead speed. The faster the clubhead is traveling at impact with the golf ball. The golf ball will travel farther, an easily understood concept.

Clubhead speed in the golf swing is contingent upon two components. Component number one is golf swing mechanics. The biomechanics of the golf swing in and of themselves create clubhead speed. It centers upon physics and the coiling/uncoiling of the body during the golf swing. In relation to improving clubhead speed and golf swing mechanics. The more efficient the woman golfer performs the mechanics of the golf swing. A greater amount of energy can be developed and transferred into the golf ball as a result. First and foremost for the woman golfer; the development of efficient golf swing mechanics can improve driving distance.

The second component of increasing clubhead speed is the body. Remember, the body is the implement swinging the golf club. It is the woman's body executing the biomechanics of the golf swing. In addition it is also the body generating power for the golf swing. Power is the ability of the body to generate the greatest amount of force in a short amount of time. Increase the ability of the body to generate more power within the biomechanics of the golf swing. An increase in clubhead speed can occur. How does the woman golfer increase power outputs of their body? This is where the implementation of golf fitness exercises can be a benefit. Golf fitness exercises can increase the power outputs of the body. Power golf fitness exercises increase the ability of your muscles to develop more force within the golf swing.

How do golf fitness exercise achieve this outcome? Golf fitness exercises develop the body around the golf swing: Very different than ordinary fitness training or aerobic classes. Golf fitness exercises develop the required flexibility, balance, strength, endurance, and power within the body for the golf swing. This allows the body to execute the biomechanics of the golf swing correctly. In addition, golf fitness exercises can improve the swing in areas such as clubhead speed.

This is accomplished with golf fitness exercises training the body in the positions, movements, and physical requirements of the golf swing. This allows for the proper levels of flexibility, balance, endurance, strength, and power to be developed within the body. Improving the capacities of flexibility, balance, strength, endurance, and power can improve the ability of the body to perform the golf swing and increase distance.

To summarize, the questions surrounding women and developing the correct golf swing are many. How to improve the golf swing through golf fitness exercises is one of these questions, and one specific area within this topic is distance. Increasing distance is contingent upon increasing clubhead speed. Improving clubhead speed centers upon golf swing mechanics and the body. Improving the efficiency of the golf swing mechanics will allow a greater transfer of energy into the golf club, thus improving clubhead speed. The second component of distance lies within the body and its ability to generate power. Increasing the power outputs of the body will enhance clubhead speed. Power outputs of the body can be improved through golf fitness exercises. These exercises differ than normal gym based exercises in that they develop the body around the swing. This allows for the proper levels of flexibility, balance, strength, endurance, and power to be developed within the golf swing.

Women's Fitness - Golden Rules For Women Who Want To Stay Fit

There are certain basic rules that all women need to know about keeping fit and healthy. They are really very simple and do not involve a lot of time or money.

Firstly, health and fitness go hand in hand. Fitness is not about attaining a perfect figure. An unnaturally slim woman is not a fit woman. The look that many catwalk models project is frankly unhealthy. A healthy woman has a layer of subcutaneous fat under the skin. It makes her look slightly rounded and soft.

One of the most important things you can do for your health and fitness as a woman is to give up smoking. If you live with a smoker then avoid breathing in their secondhand smoke.

Another simple step to fitness and much easier than giving up smoking is to drink plenty of water. About four pints of water a day are needed by every woman. Water flushes out the body, keeps the bowels regular and ensures a clear skin.

Water also helps to stop you snacking. We often nibble when we are thirsty. If we are well hydrated we tend to eat less between meals.

Diet, diet and diet must be the three most important factors in keeping fit as a woman. It is always necessary to eat a well balanced diet. But at different stages of a woman's life she may need different nutrients. If you are planning to get pregnant then you must pay particular attention to your diet and so on through your life.

Not every woman wants to get pregnant but if you do then the best thing you can do for own health and the baby's health is to breast feed. Breast fed babies have been shown to be more intelligent and less susceptible to allegies. Women who breast feed are less likely to get breast cancer.

It is important for every woman to get checked for breast cancer at regular intervals and to be checked for cervical cancer. These are killer diseases and should not be ignored however much we hate internal exams and medical intervention.

An incredibly simple measure that many women ignore is to visit their dentist regularly. A dentist can not only deal with tooth decay and gum disease they can spot the early signs of other serious diseases.

Similarly you should see an optician particularly as you get older. You optician can warn you of developing problems such as cataracts.

All these health professionals have a part to play in maintaining the health of a woman and should not be ignored by any woman who wants to keep fit.

Exercise is vital to the fit woman. It is never too late to start exercise. Nor is a woman ever too old to exercise. The key is to tailor the fitness program to the individual woman.

Regular exercise is essential to maintaining a healthy weight. Obesity is a common problem among women and can lead to serious health problems.

Exercise also helps to avoid other health problems such as high blood pressure, diabetes and osteoporosis. Osteoporosis is a disease in which the bones loose calcium and become brittle. Exercise can help to prevent that happening.

More women than men suffer from senile dementia because they tend to live longer. Exercise has been shown to delay the onset of dementia in elderly people.

Finally, one of the key factors in maintaining health and fitness is a rich social life. So make friends, keep friends and practice safe sex.

Golf Fitness Exercises For The Woman Golfer

It is well known in professional golf how integral golf fitness exercises are for success at the highest level of golf. Men on the PGA Tour and women on the LPGA Tour understand the benefits of golf fitness exercises in achieving success. Outside the circles of professional golf many questions exist about golf fitness exercises. Questions such as; what are the best exercises to improve golf fitness levels, are flexibility exercises and stretches better than other forms of golf fitness exercises, and what are the benefits of golf fitness exercises for the woman golfer?

These and many questions surround the topic of golf fitness. This article is to provide some answers for you on the topic of golf fitness exercises for woman. It has been well documented in magazines and television how LPGA women such as Annika Sorenstam utilize golf fitness programs to benefit their play on the golf course. Is there a difference between the LPGA player and the amateur woman golfer in relation to golf fitness training? The answer is no. Yes, the women on the LPGA Tour are the best women golfers in the world, but the physiology of the LPGA player and amateur are the same. The skeletal, muscular, and neural systems are the same. The professional golfer has the same number of muscles in their bodies as the amateur. The woman's professional golfer has the same skeletal structure as the female amateur, and nervous system as well. Granted the LPGA player has more refined and efficient swing mechanics, but the body is the same.

As a result of the body being the same, the principles and structure of a golf fitness program for any woman is similar. Before discussing the specifics of a golf fitness program for women it is necessary to understand a few important principles. The first principle to understand about a golf fitness program is sports specific. Sports specific is a term describing the type of training utilized in a golf fitness program. Sport specific training simply states the program utilized by the woman athlete is geared towards improving them in their chosen sport.

A second principle closely related to sports specific training is cross specificity training. Cross specificity training is the utilization of exercises to develop the woman golfer in the positions, movements, and actions incorporated in the golf swing. The goal of cross specificity training is a transfer of training effect to the field of competition. Simply stated, a transfer of training effect is the ability of exercises utilized to train the female golfer having a direct benefit on their performance during a round of golf.

For example, golf fitness flexibility exercises will attempt to improve the flexibility within the woman golfer. As the woman golfer improves her flexibility parameters in relation to the golf swing. She may be able to create a bigger shoulder turn, which may increase the distance of her drives. This benefit is an example of a transfer of training effect onto the golf course. In summary, the three principles that assist in the development of a golf fitness program for women are; sports specific, cross specificity training, and transfer of training effect. Many additional principles exist that are used as guidelines in the development of a golf fitness program, but these are three essential ones.

Outside of the guidelines governing the development of a golf fitness program for woman. Specific physical components within the body are needed within the body to execute the golf swing correctly. Remember, it is the body performing the biomechanics of the golf swing. In order for the golf swing to be executed correctly and efficiently certain levels of flexibility, balance, strength, endurance, and power are required. These are the actual physical components within the woman golfer a golf specific fitness program looks to develop and enhance in relation to the golf swing.

The golf swing requires the body to move through a long range of motion for an efficient movement to occur. Much of this is contingent upon the ability of the core to coil and uncoil during the swing. In order for these two biomechanical actions to occur efficiently, the development of proper flexibility in the core is necessary.

We utilize flexibility exercises that are cross-specific to the movements in the golf swing to develop flexibility. The majority of these flexibility exercises are rotational and dynamic.

The golf swing is a dynamic movement, indicating that the body is in constant motion. It is crucial to develop a range of motion for the swing in a dynamic rather than a static (not moving) method. The goal of these exercises is to create a range of motion in the core for the golf swing. Flexibility is the first physical component requiring development within the woman golfer.

One needs to maintain, dynamically, a stable body throughout the entire swing. We have all hit balls at the range and know what happens when we do not stay balanced during the swing. Improving the balance and stabilization capabilities of the core translates into a better golf swing. Better Balance equals a Better Swing. Even subtle movements are consistency killers; thus we need to develop and maintain balance for a consistent swing.

Balance is connected to the efficiency of the nervous system and strength of the muscular system working together. The development of greater balance in the core and swing is the result of two types of specific exercise. The first challenges the nervous system creating greater efficiency. The second are exercises that create increased strength in the core. The combination of these two types of exercises permit for the body to maintain posture, promote efficient weight transfer, and create power in the swing. The result is a more consistent, accurate, and powerful swing. This is the second component included with a golf fitness program for women

Remember that the golf swing is a repetitive movement. The mechanics of the swing repeat with each stroke. This process can be repeated hundreds of times in a round of golf. Ever go to the range and hit two buckets of balls? At some point the body starts to tire, and shots scatter.

Proper endurance training enables us to repeat a sound swing. We produce this through a series of exercises developing endurance in the entire body. This nets us a consistent swing through eighteen holes. Increasing endurance leads to lower scores. This is the third physical component of the golf fitness program for women.

Club head speed is a function of power. The more power generated by the body, the greater speed at which a club head impacts the ball. More power to the ball equals longer drives. Developing higher levels of power within the muscular system of the body is achieved through the implementation of power exercises. These types of exercise assist in creating higher power outputs of the muscles involved in the golf swing. Power training is the final component found in a golf fitness program for women.

In summary a golf fitness program for the LPGA or amateur woman golfer is relatively the same. Golf fitness exercises for the woman golfer are sports specific. The exercises contained within the golf fitness program are cross-specific to the movements, positions, and requirements of the golf swing. The exercises within a woman's golf fitness program induce a transfer of training effect onto the golf course. The golf swing requires certain levels of flexibility, balance, strength, endurance, and power to execute correctly. A golf fitness program for women will look to enhance these physical components of the body. The end result is an improved golf swing equating to lower scores and more enjoyment on the golf course.

Fitness Woman: You Can Fit Exercise Into Your Daily Routine

Women tend to put their own needs last, and exercise is generally on the bottom of the list of priorities. We live in a society that is fast paced, and many households have only one parent or one where both parents work. Trying work and take care of a family are hard enough, but becoming a fitness woman is a something you should make a priority.

As women get older, their metabolism slows down. This can lead to health issues including becoming over weight. A fitness woman works to include three essential activities into her daily routine: exercise, eating a healthy diet, and getting enough sleep. If you have children to take care of, you can still find time to take care of yourself. Ask your spouse to help so you can have that time for you. You can also ask a friend to alternate childcare so that each of you has time to get some exercise.

Some fitness clubs have onsite childcare. This is a great way to help you become a fitness woman without worrying about finding someone to care for them. There are also great ways to exercise with your children. It is a great way to teach them the importance of fitness from a very early age. With younger children, consider jogging or walking. You can get a jogging stroller or even pull them in a wagon.

Getting outside and chasing your toddler around in the yard is great fun and is considered exercise. With older children, play sports with them including basketball, volleyball, football, soccer, and kick ball. This is a great way to spend some quality time with your children that doesn't cost anything, and everyone will be getting plenty of exercise.

Fitness women have learned how to prioritize their time. The laundry may not get folded and the dishes may not get put away, but you will have time to take care of yourself, and that is essential. After all, how you take care of everything else when you aren't taken care of? Talk to your family about the importance of having some time for you to get physically fit. Chances are they will be willing to lend a hand to help out with more household chores so that you can find the time in your day to work out.

To help you stay motivated, a fitness woman needs to make her workout time a priority in her day. Schedule your workout time in with the rest of the items on your daily planner. You don't have to tell anyone what you have scheduled during that time, but if they ask you to commit to something else, politely say you are not available during that period of time.

Many of us have friends who want to become a fitness woman as well. Consider asking a friend to join you in your exercise routine. This is a great way to have someone to motivate you to stick with your exercise plan. It also gives you another person to turn to for support. You can share your accomplishments as well as discuss the barriers that are in your way when it comes to becoming fit.

Take Responsibility For Your Health And Fitness Before Illness Takes Responsibility For You 2 Of 2

In the first part to this article I showed you how your health and fitness results are a direct result of your health and fitness decisions. You are responsible whether you like it or not. In this second part to the article, I share with you what all Powerfully Positive People know, hat is how saying you are not responsible robs you of your health and fitness power, while taking responsibility, give you all the power you need. Plus I share the one big step you need to take as soon as you have taken responsibility.

When you do not take responsibility for you health and fitness, you rob yourself of the majority of your power over your health and fitness. You may say “I am this way because of my genes, or my metabolism.” Well what influence do you have over your genes or metabolism? Very little or none. If you grant power over your health and fitness to external influences your outlook is bleak. You have no chance. The world is a scary place, and you are at its mercy.

On the other hand, if you say “My genes and metabolism are just an influence on me, and I am ultimately responsible for my health and fitness” you claim back your power (didn’t you feel a little of that power as your read those words?). The world is a brighter place and you can for the most part, chose what you do, where you go, and what you achieve.

Those who have taken responsibility for their health and fitness are plain to see. They are the sports stars, and athletes that are idolised (don’t you have a favourite sport’s hero?), or those fit people that you know which everyone takes notice of and admires. Every one of these people has taken responsibility for their health and fitness.

Once you tell yourself that you are responsible for your health and fitness, and that you are able to work with influences such as genes, metabolism, or the lingering effects of past illnesses or injuries, you must take THE FIRST BIG STEP.

What is this first big step?

It is to start getting yourself a health and fitness education.

Most people’s health and fitness education stopped the moment they left school, or college. Your health education should be a life long study, rather than just a few years in formal education. Rather than your teachers being responsible for your education, you need to realise that you need to be responsible, and responsible on an on going basis for the rest of your life. It is only by acquiring this knowledge will you know how to act to ensure that you become healthy and fit and remain so for the rest of your life (like me learning about the effects of smoking on my sight).

And it is not difficult. Taken a little bit at a time over the rest of your life, it is easy, and becomes, enjoyable and second nature. Health knowledge is all around. In newspapers, magazines, on the television, books, and on the internet. And as soon as you tell yourself that you want to learn what you are reading, you will automatically take more in and remember it more. And the more times you read something, the more it sinks in. Make yourself the habit of reading every health and fitness article twice. You’ll be amazed at the results.

What about the maze and masses of often conflicting information out there? Well, I can tell you from experience that this is a little bit of a myth. You’ll be surprised at how quickly you’ll find that the maze is not as big as you expected it to be.

So decide today to become a Powerfully Positive Person, and empower yourself by taking responsibility for your health and fitness, and start getting your lifelong health and fitness education.
